The year my son was born, I had to go to South Korea.
In 2012, my wife was a wedding photographer, and we were supposed to go together to take some engagement portraits for one of her clients. We had planned a week-long trip, but my wife had severe early complications when she became pregnant with our son.
Ultimately, we made a hard decision, and I went by myself and cut my trip to three days. Two days I spent photographing the couple. For the last 24 hours, I had some time to myself before my flight home.Â
These photographs were taken that day and remind me of conflicting times in my life. I was excited to be overseas in a place where I didn't speak the language. Sadden and scared for my ailing pregnant wife at home.
Fortunately, 7 months later, our baby boy was born healthy, and my wife began her recovery.
