I'm not much of a church goer. I was baptized Lutheran, but my family pretty much left the church when I was in 3rd grade. I think all the dogma and patriarchal bullshit just rubbed my mom wrong the way. My dad wasn't ever a strong believer either, so it was an easy transition for all of us. I certainly was glad to not have to go Sunday school anymore. What's worse than spending your Sundays indoors learning about some people who died long ago that really have no impact on my life today. I just want to play with my GI Joes and ride my bike in the dirt fields near my house.
As much as I dislike organized religion, the architectural aspect of it has always been fascinating. These buildings are meant to be a beacon of hope in a community, but often times their so imposing that they feel unwelcoming to outsiders. Despite for a few famous churches like Notre Damme and Sacré-Cœur, I have no desire to go inside any of them.
I'll take photos of them all day though. Especially if they're pink.
