Luxe Magazine Cover Feature

2018 has started off great with this amazing cover feature I shot for January’s Pacific Northwest edition of Luxe Interiors + Design. Designed by husband and wife duo Holly Freres (JHL Design) and David Horning (MOA Architecture), this ultra cool coastal getaway was so much fun to shoot. I really admired the contrast of modern architecture and interior design with the natural rugged coastal surroundings. It was very zen and balanced. The whole house felt very cozy and the views stunning. Both Holly and David were there with me to help style the shots and clean the windows (thanks David).

True story: Holly texted me the day she got her copy head over heels that we made the cover. I was so excited for her and very proud to share these spreads with you. The full gallery is available in the WORK section of my website as well.

Tailoring Thomas – Portland Monthly November 2013

Tailoring Thomas - Portland Monthly November 2013

Here is a really cool shoot I did for last month’s issue of Portland Monthly. Thomas Lauderdale, of Pink Martini fame, has this amazing house/building right in downtown Portland. It recently went through a huge restoration and remodel led by artist and designer Philip Iosca. It’s a pretty stunning place to call home, but I could see how fun it would be live here. Thomas and Philip were both really wonderful to work with on the shoot. The three story building made for some logistical problems, but nothing you can’t fix with a pair of assistants. Art directed by Michael Novak, he used a lot of my photos for the final piece and I love the big spreads he designed. One of my finer shoots for Portland Monthly.

The rest of the spreads are below and a gallery of the images on their own. If you missed the print version, you can read it online here. Rock on!

(Note: I didn’t gray out that one ad on the bottom right because it’s one of my shots I did recently for my great client Green Hammer. Advertising and Editorial living in harmony.)

Victorian Kitchen

Victorian Kitchen by Jessica Helgerson Interior Design

Happy Thanksgiving Eve Everyone! I finally have a breather after what’s been an incredibly busy fall. It’s been too long since my last blog bust, but it feels good to be back. I have a major backlog of work to share, so subscribe to my RSS to get the latest and greatest.

I figured since many of us will be spending some time in the kitchen this weekend, I thought I’d show off this incredible kitchen remodel I shot for Jessica Helgerson Interior Design. It’s always a pleasure to shoot for Jessica and I’m so happy we’ve got to work together so much over the years. Her designs have always struck me as understated elegance. She has a way of making beautiful spaces that you can live in as well as admire. Plus they always photograph so well ūüėČ

Enjoy your holiday!

JHL Design Featured in GRAY

Also from the December/January issue of GRAY, a shoot I did for JHL Design got the glossy treatment with this six page spread. The double truck kitchen shot looked killer in print. I was really happy for JHL to get published. I shot  quite  a few projects for them last year and Holly and Jasmine do excellent work. Plus, they were a lot of fun to work with. JHL Design just launched a new site and you should check it out: www.jhldesign.com

Back to Back Cover Features for GRAY

After a little blogging hiatus, it feels good to be writing again about what I’ve been up to lately. Got some good stuff in the queue covering personal work, photo business stuff, and lots of tearsheets. In fact, here are two cover features for GRAY Magazine that just ran back to back December/January and February/March.

GRAY Magazine December / January Cover Feature - Gothic Office by Jessica Helgerson

This cover features the awesomely moody Gothic Office I shot for Jessica Helgerson Interior Design last year. I was really happy to see the shoot run in print. GRAY does a really nice job on their printing and the shots really pop off the page.

Then for the February/March issue, GRAY picked up a shoot I did a few years ago that I loved. Many of these shots are in my portfolio.

Oregon Home – Houseboat Cover & Feature

If you’ve never been to Portland, you might not know of the copious amounts of houseboat communities. For this cover story for Oregon Home magazine, I got to visit three communites in the area. Each one was very different with it’s own set of character and charm. One common thread between them all, really nice people who love being on the water. Portland Monthly May 2011 – Rich Living

The May 2011¬†Portland Monthly is out and there is a great feature story I shot of Andy Ricker’s place in SE Portland. Ricker, the¬†restaurateur responsible for¬†Pok Pok, Ping, Whiskey Soda¬†Lounge, and, Pok Pok Noi; has one of the coolest bachelor pads I’ve ever seen. Designed by Andee Hess of Osmose, the space has a ton of character and truly reflects Ricker’s personality and esthetic.

Check out Amara Holstein’s article on Portland Monthly’s website to hear what I mean. Better yet, get off your butt and go pick up a copy of the magazine right now. Jason Blackheart art directed the shoot and did an amazing job with the layout. Here are the rest of the spreads PLUS the shots by themselves. 2010 Cyclo-Cross Nationals – Bend, OR

It’s snowing in Portland today and that reminded me of the time I went to Bend in December to see the 2010 USA Cyclo-Cross Nationals. Cold, wet, mud, all combined with fierce competition to make this a truly exciting event to watch and shoot. I shot it for fun, but I like how these shots came out.¬† I use to BMX when I was a kid and then mountain bike in my early 20s. I never did anything competitive, but I could see myself totally getting into Cyclo-Cross. Maybe I’ll try out some of amateur races this next fall. Maybe…

Speaking of cycling and racing, I’m sponsoring the Team Oregon this year with donations of photography and discounts on prints/downloads. I’ll be shooting some documentary work of the Elite team as well as shooting some of the races. Stay tuned for more cycling action!

UPDATE: Take a look at all the best shots from the day in my Archive: http://bit.ly/2010CycloCross

Getting it Done with The Works

It’s been pretty busy summer here at LB Photo. Some great editorial work is coming out soon, but in the meantime I thought I’d recap some recent commercial work.

The Works is an amazing contractor and remodeler based in Portland, OR. They’ve been responsible for making some of the wonderful glamourous interiors designed by Jessica Helgerson come to life.¬† They recently hired me to shoot some of their own work and it was a pleasure to photograph. Here are some of my favorite shots from two shoots we did this summer.
