Midcentury Modern Shoot Featured on Dwell

A few years back, I shot an incredible midcentury modern remodeled home for my client, Portland, OR based JHL Design. I really loved the shots we got from this shoot and apparently my client and I weren’t the only ones. Dwell.com recently featured the shooton their blog! Here’s a snippet from the before and after article:

An old home in Lake Oswego, Oregon, receives a modern makeover, while keeping its midcentury charm intact.

Oregon–based David Horning of MOA Architecture has joined forces with principal designer Holly Freres of JHL Design to carefully renovate the 1955 three-bedroom dwelling. By using period-appropriate materials, the team has not only restored the property to its original warmth and charm, but also infused a modern, contemporary vibe. To emphasize the home’s tranquil lakeside location, two 10-foot sliding doors have been added to the living room to enable a seamless connection to the outdoors.

Breaking Tradition – Portland Monthly Feature

Some days, you just really feel like you nailed it. I like those days. This shoot I did for the August issue of Portland Monthly came out fantastic. I certainly can’t take all the credit. Homeowner/Architect Risa Boyer Leritz and her husband did an amazing job remodeling this classic tudor into a bright and lively modern space. The house felt good with lots of natural light and open rooms. They also put a lot of thought into the interior design which really makes any architecture project something special. It was a joy to photograph and this opening spread is my favorite of the year so far. Special thanks to Michael Novak for the art direction and layout. Here are the rest of the tearsheets with the shots on their own as well. Continue reading “Breaking Tradition – Portland Monthly Feature” »

ReadyMade – June/July 2011 Cover & Feature

UPDATE: Sad news to report. ReadyMade is folding and this will be their last issue. Best wishes to all the staff and contributers. May you find new work and many more great adventures.

I did it. After 9 years of hard work, thousands of hours of shooting, huge career highs and huge career lows, I have finally achieved one of the first goals I ever wrote down when I decided to become a photographer: I have the cover shot of a national magazine. Not only that, but the shoot is one I’m tremendously proud of and ReadyMade has been one of my top 10 editorial clients I’ve wanted to shoot for. It’s like icing on the cake.

Shot in Portland, OR, the Eyebrow House is an amazing remodel by architect Edgar Papazian of Doon Architecture. It’s curved, modern, and organic asthethic blew my mind. I’ve never seen anything quite like it (and I’ve shot a lot of houses). Edgar and his family were also really sweet and welcoming. The shoot was superbly art directed by Renda Morton of Rumors Studio and styling credit goes to the über-talented Bergren Rameson. The article was written by the brilliant Amara Holstein (who I’ve worked with many times before).

Getting it Done with The Works

It’s been pretty busy summer here at LB Photo. Some great editorial work is coming out soon, but in the meantime I thought I’d recap some recent commercial work.

The Works is an amazing contractor and remodeler based in Portland, OR. They’ve been responsible for making some of the wonderful glamourous interiors designed by Jessica Helgerson come to life.  They recently hired me to shoot some of their own work and it was a pleasure to photograph. Here are some of my favorite shots from two shoots we did this summer.
