Luxe Magazine Cover Feature

2018 has started off great with this amazing cover feature I shot for January’s Pacific Northwest edition of Luxe Interiors + Design. Designed by husband and wife duo Holly Freres (JHL Design) and David Horning (MOA Architecture), this ultra cool coastal getaway was so much fun to shoot. I really admired the contrast of modern architecture and interior design with the natural rugged coastal surroundings. It was very zen and balanced. The whole house felt very cozy and the views stunning. Both Holly and David were there with me to help style the shots and clean the windows (thanks David).

True story: Holly texted me the day she got her copy head over heels that we made the cover. I was so excited for her and very proud to share these spreads with you. The full gallery is available in the WORK section of my website as well.

Country Living – Cloverfield Farm

I have to admit, one of the biggest perks to my editorial shoots is meeting incredible people and spending time in their beautiful homes. Such is the case of Cloverfield Farm recently featured in Country Living Magazine. This stunning rustic barn home is the dream effort of the sweetest couple Jessica & Kevin Carnell. Jessica has a great Instagram feed (@growing_cloverfield_farm) of the whole project from start to finish. They were incredibly hospitable, making us feel very welcome and even cooking some amazing food. Check out this spread on my Instagram feed (@growing_cloverfield_farm). I really enjoyed this shoot and got some wonderful images as well. To see more images from the shoot, visit the Work Section of my website.

Country Living Cover Feature January 2016

Country_LivingJan2015_Cover

2016 is off to a great start with this cover feature for Country Living. I didn’t know it was going to be the cover when I shot last year and found out shortly before it went to press. After 14 years of shooting and getting published, it’s still very rewarding to see your work in print on a newsstand.

I had a great time at this shoot. I was in Franklin, TN for two full days of shooting. The charming rustic look of the house was really fun to photograph. Jami Supsic, Style Director for Country Livingbrilliantly staged the shots and was super helpful in art direction, too. The homeowners, Mandy and Randy Reeves, were so friendly and hospitable. They didn’t even mind when we rearranged their living room for the cover try. Southern Charm at it’s best.

These kinds of shoots are team efforts and when you have a great team, the end results are fantastic. Here are the spreads from the feature story. Click to enlarge and enjoy!

Tailoring Thomas – Portland Monthly November 2013

Tailoring Thomas - Portland Monthly November 2013

Here is a really cool shoot I did for last month’s issue of Portland Monthly. Thomas Lauderdale, of Pink Martini fame, has this amazing house/building right in downtown Portland. It recently went through a huge restoration and remodel led by artist and designer Philip Iosca. It’s a pretty stunning place to call home, but I could see how fun it would be live here. Thomas and Philip were both really wonderful to work with on the shoot. The three story building made for some logistical problems, but nothing you can’t fix with a pair of assistants. Art directed by Michael Novak, he used a lot of my photos for the final piece and I love the big spreads he designed. One of my finer shoots for Portland Monthly.

The rest of the spreads are below and a gallery of the images on their own. If you missed the print version, you can read it online here. Rock on!

(Note: I didn’t gray out that one ad on the bottom right because it’s one of my shots I did recently for my great client Green Hammer. Advertising and Editorial living in harmony.)

Small Spaces, Big Spread

Big Life Small Spaces - Portland Monthly April 2013

The blog has been a little quiet lately, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy. In fact, it’s been a great start to the year and I can’t wait to share some recent work. Timing of blog posts is often tricky for me. For example, part of this shoot for Portland Monthly I shot back in September of 2012. So, it’s been 8 months before I can even talk about and show the work.

These three small space were a fun challenge to photograph. The first house was only 11 feet wide on the inside. That’s probably the narrowest home I’ve ever shot. The other two apartments we’re typically small, but the owners really made use of the space with their design minded aesthetics. My friend Amara Holstein wrote the story and it’s a great read especially if you don’t know what to do with your own tiny place. Here are the spreads for a little inspiration.

JHL Design Featured in GRAY

Also from the December/January issue of GRAY, a shoot I did for JHL Design got the glossy treatment with this six page spread. The double truck kitchen shot looked killer in print. I was really happy for JHL to get published. I shot  quite  a few projects for them last year and Holly and Jasmine do excellent work. Plus, they were a lot of fun to work with. JHL Design just launched a new site and you should check it out: www.jhldesign.com
