Country Living Cover Feature January 2016

Country_LivingJan2015_Cover

2016 is off to a great start with this cover feature for Country Living. I didn’t know it was going to be the cover when I shot last year and found out shortly before it went to press. After 14 years of shooting and getting published, it’s still very rewarding to see your work in print on a newsstand.

I had a great time at this shoot. I was in Franklin, TN for two full days of shooting. The charming rustic look of the house was really fun to photograph. Jami Supsic, Style Director for Country Livingbrilliantly staged the shots and was super helpful in art direction, too. The homeowners, Mandy and Randy Reeves, were so friendly and hospitable. They didn’t even mind when we rearranged their living room for the cover try. Southern Charm at it’s best.

These kinds of shoots are team efforts and when you have a great team, the end results are fantastic. Here are the spreads from the feature story. Click to enlarge and enjoy!

New Work: Rejuvenation

Rejuvenation - Lighting & House Parts

Up until my recent move back to Virginia, I had been doing catalog shoots for Rejuvenation (parent company: Williams-Sonoma) for almost 2 years. In addition to their catalog, the shots were also used on their website and marketing materials. It was a lot fun creating these images and working with a big crew to pull off some fresh looking work for a company with deep Portland roots. It’s part product photography, part interior photography, part studio photography, and though it comes off as relaxed, it was well planned out and often filled with lots of variations and LOTS of rigging (here, here, and here). Every shoot always felt like a pretty action packed day even though the product and my camera never really moved that much.

I’m really proud of the work I created for Rejuvenation and wanted to share them here on my blog and also on a special section under WORK.

Enjoy.

Recycled Kitchen in HGTV Magazine

HGTV Magazine - Shannon Quimby's Recycled Kitchen

For the June issue of HGTV Magazine, I shot a very cool and eco-friendly kitchen in Southeast Portland. In this beautiful kitchen makeover, Shannon Quimby expertly used existing materials from the original home and found objects for both decor and function Her take on on reclaimed interior design is creative, but also very approachable. There are definitely some good tips in here for you DIY remodelers.

Here is the rest of the four spread and a gallery of the shots on their own. Look for this spread in HGTV Magazine on newsstands now!

Twenty Eleven – A Year of Work

I’m a little late for an end of year review, but here it is none the less. Speaking purely from a financial point of view, 2011 was a lot like 2010 in that it was way better than 2009, but not quite as good as 2008. However, the photographs I created in 2011 are some of my best yet and I’ve never had more fun being a photographer. I really feel like my style and approach are starting to gel and I’m looking forward to what 2012 and beyond brings. Here are some of my favorite shots from last year.

Thank you to all my clients for making this year so great. You all are a truly a pleasure to work for and I look forward to many more projects together.

Also, thank you to all the stylists, models, assistants, art directors, photo editors, art buyers, and marketing directors I’ve worked with this year. The success of all these shoots wouldn’t have been possible without your collaboration.

Finally, a special shout out to Justin Tunis and Daniel Cronin for being two excellent go to assistants. Thank you for your hard work, your professionalism on set, and being easy to travel with. I’ll be calling you soon.
